JYSK celebrates double birthday

On 2 April 2024, it is 45 years since Lars Larsen, also known as the Tradesman, opened the first JYSK store in Denmark. Five years later, he also opened in Germany, which has since grown to be the largest market for JYSK.

As per tradition, the birthday has been celebrated with great offers for customers in stores and online.

Since the opening on 2 April 1979 on Silkeborgvej in Aarhus, Denmark, JYSK has grown to more than 3,300 stores spread across 48 countries, 31,000 employees and a turnover of DKK 38.5 billion in the financial year 2022/23.

"Our birthday is a festive celebration of our success and growth every year, and we look forward to celebrating the day with customers, both in Denmark and in the other countries where we has JYSK stores. We are proud and happy that customers continue to choose us as their preferred store when choosing a bed or furnishing their home, and therefore we would like to give something back with extra great offers when we have a birthday," says President & CEO of JYSK, Rami Jensen.

In Denmark, JYSK has just opened its 113thstore in the heart of Copenhagen, and stores number 114 and 115 are ready to welcome customers later this year.

Double up on birthdays

And this year, JYSK can celebrate another round birthday. Over Easter, JYSK in Germany marked its 40th anniversary in the country, where JYSK today has almost 1,000 stores.

"A huge congratulations to JYSK in Germany on their 40th anniversary. Germany was the first country our founder, Lars Larsen, expanded to outside Denmark, and the development in Germany has clearly exceeded all expectations. I would like to thank our employees and country management for their great work and dedication, and I look forward to celebrating the next milestones for JYSK in Germany," says President and CEO of JYSK, Rami Jensen.

Speed on expansion

It was Lars Larsen's vision that JYSK should continue to cross new borders and expand the business.

The international home furnishing chain still has full speed on development, and after opening in Turkey last year, the next goal is to enter the Moroccan market in 2025.
