With Big Business Comes Great Responsibility

…..which is why JYSK has adopted a set of rules governing our approach to the environment, ethics and quality in a policy we call “Trade & Attitude“.

JYSK is one of Europe's leading retailers of products for the home, especially bed linen and bathroom goods. We are determined to meet the standards consumers demand from our products.  One of the ways we do that is through our policy of caring for the environment, following clear ethical rules and safeguarding quality as well as product safety.

JYSK strives to be an environmentally conscious leader in the international retail marketplace. We are determined to act responsibly and proactively towards the environment and do our utmost to create more sustainable local communities.

These standards are integral to all areas of our business and are part of an ongoing process designed to achieve increasing high levels of environmental and ethical awareness, both in the company and in society at large.

JYSK believes that responsible attitudes and initiatives aimed at the environment, ethics and product quality are essential factors in the world of business.

Environment

Environmental problems are a worldwide concern, but local efforts will always influence people’s surroundings and environment.

Today it’s more important than ever to safeguard the environment and the world around us. We consume more of our planet's resources than we return. For the sake of the environment and ourselves we have to stop.

JYSK actively works to secure the right of future generations to have clean water, air and an environment that thrives under the most favourable conditions.

We are a major international retailer and we acknowledge our part of the responsibility for the world we all share.

JYSK will:

  • Strive to sell only FSC certified hardwood garden furniture and invest in more FSC forestry through the Tropical Forest Trust (TFT).
  • Sell only textiles that meet the highest criteria and standards, more stringent even than national standards such as Ekotex 100
  • Follow the minimum environmental standards for the individual countries in which we operate.
  • Make efforts to reduce the use of phthalates
  • Work to reduce the use of PVC
  • Continually recycle rubbish from our stores.

Garden furniture – particularly natural wood - is extremely popular all over the world. This continued demand is, of course, excellent news for us as retailers, but it is also a cause for concern. The extinction of our rain forests is not just a threat - it is a fact.

In order to ensure the survival of the tropical forests, every retailer has to be responsible.  It is crucial that the FSC certification programme is supported. All companies involved in the production and marketing of natural wood products must invest in more FSC and sustainable forestry, not just a growing handful of ethical businesses.

Looking after the planet has to be considered across every part of the business.  Textiles are treated with chemicals because of the standards consumers insist upon, but these chemicals, which may be the cause of rashes and allergies, must be thoroughly washed out before products go on sale. The waste chemicals must also be properly contained to protect the environment.

Collecting and sorting rubbish is a part of our everyday business at JYSK. We place great importance on disposing of rubbish - especially plastic wrappings - in an environmentally responsible manner.
